We are having our annual End of Year Awards Party on Saturday, March 27th.
The morning will have a dual course set up on Wardance for fun racing and beginning at noon we will have a BBQ (weather permitting of course) at the Yurt/Gate Shack area. At 1:00 the season long awards from each program will be handed out.
So come on by and have a great time with us!
Saturday 3/13 is our final Hopeful race and meeting for the season. We are scheduled to race on the NASTAR course at 10 am. We’ll meet in front of the Sugar House at 9 am, inspect, and begin racing at 10 am. Awards, results, and a pizza party will take place at 12:15 at the yurt at the base of the Black Ridge Chair.
We have really enjoyed skiing with the kids this winter and it has been great to see so much improvement and everyone’s dedication to being on the mountain every weekend. Thanks!!! See you on Saturday.

Dear OMARA communty:
In conjunction with our conferences scheduled for this Friday, OMS will be hosting an open house social for parents from 3:00-5:00pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to view the school, meet teachers and administrators, and find out how OMS might be a fantastic match for your child’s continued athletic and academic development.
Appetizers, beer and wine will be available. As we travel into the final weeks of the season let’s gather together and toast our children and for what they have accomplished and you, their parents, for providing them with this opportunity.

We freeze at the slopes together watching our kids soar down mountains, celebrating when they do well, understanding our job at hand when they don’t, and supporting and hugging each other when they get hurt. We have fun skiing together, chatting on the chair lift rides, seeing each other in town at certain “establishments”, gathering at each other’s condos and houses, and those fun OMARA parties…we are women who love to ski, we are friends.
A few years ago, we had some awesome Okemommas shirts made (thx Lori Ford). While looking sharp, we also supported a great cause and sent a donation to the Susan Komen Fund, which as most of you know, seeks to find a cure for breast cancer – a disease that has touched many of us, our friends, sisters and mothers. This year we would like to take on a new cause, Pancreatic Cancer. 2009 was a sad year for us, we lost a fellow Okemomma and friend, Donna Saydek. Many of us have know Donna for years, and have watched with her as Hana has won numerous races and made all of us proud.
The organization that John has chosen is called Pancreatic Cancer Action Network – www.pancan.org <http://www.pancan.org/> .
Lori Ford is creating a 1/4 zip fleece for us made by Rossignol. OKEMOMMA will be embroidered in purple, the color of the pancreatic cancer cause, on the left side of the front. It will also have the Japanese character for “teruko”- Donna’s middle name and the name of her business – translates to “to shine”. Lori has ordered a few sizes/samples that I will have with me this weekend and the coming week for people to try on (sugar shack during lunch). You can also come over if it’s more convenient. Lori is working out the numbers now – I’ll let you know as soon as we know.

This week we will be meeting on Saturday 2/13 at the Sugar House 9-11 and 12-2. During the week we will meet Tuesday 2/16 with a race in the morning, group skiing in the afternoon. Thursday 2/18 we’ll meet 9-11 and 12-2, then again Saturday 2/20 9-11 and 12-2. Hope to see everyone this coming week.
Our race on Saturday will be in the afternoon. Plan to meet at the Sugar House at 9 am for our morning session. We’ll regroup at noon, head over to the Nastar course, inspect and then begin racing at 1 pm. Awards will take place at the yurt (base of the Black Ridge Chair) shortly after the race ends. Greetings OMARA community… In this post you will find some more materials from USSA regarding effective and appropriate parenting of competitive snowsports athletes.
Great racing by everyone last weekend, it was a beautiful day and the kids all skied well. This Saturday we’ll be meeting, as usual, at the Sugar House at 9 am and then again at 12 noon. It is going to be colder on Saturday so please dress warmly, bring along some hand warmers just in case.
Just a reminder, parents please make sure your children use the bathroom before each training session. That will just help us to avoid panic pit stops. Thanks!

This document is a favorite of mine. Let your kids own their sport – be a supporter, a fan and the bill payer!! We can’t thank you enough for all that you do to support our athletes – but, please, just do that. No need to solve the world’s problems at the bottom of the course/venue. Nothing will ever be perfect in freestyle or the world – except your child!!
