OMS Open House, Friday 2/19

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Dear OMARA communty:

In conjunction with our conferences scheduled for this Friday, OMS will be hosting an open house social for parents from 3:00-5:00pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to view the school, meet teachers and administrators, and find out how OMS might be a fantastic match for your child’s continued athletic and academic development.

Appetizers, beer and wine will be available.  As we travel into the final weeks of the season let’s gather together and toast our children and for what they have accomplished and you, their parents, for providing them with this opportunity.

Best,

WENDY

OMARA community coming together for a moving cause…

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

A note from Elizabeth Gilroy to the OMARA community; please read, as it points to our unity both on and off the slopes…

Okemommas…

We freeze at the slopes together watching our kids soar down mountains, celebrating when they do well, understanding our job at hand when they don’t, and supporting and hugging each other when they get hurt. We have fun skiing together, chatting on the chair lift rides, seeing each other in town at certain “establishments”, gathering at each other’s condos and houses, and those fun OMARA parties…we are women who love to ski, we are friends.

A few years ago, we had some awesome Okemommas shirts made (thx Lori Ford). While looking sharp, we also supported a great cause and sent a donation to the Susan Komen Fund, which as most of you know, seeks to find a cure for breast cancer – a disease that has touched many of us, our friends, sisters and mothers. This year we would like to take on a new cause, Pancreatic Cancer. 2009 was a sad year for us, we lost a fellow Okemomma and friend, Donna Saydek. Many of us have know Donna for years, and have watched with her as Hana has won numerous races and made all of us proud.

The organization that John has chosen is called Pancreatic Cancer Action Network – www.pancan.org <http://www.pancan.org/> .

Lori Ford is creating a 1/4 zip fleece for us made by Rossignol. OKEMOMMA will be embroidered in purple, the color of the pancreatic cancer cause, on the left side of the front. It will also have the Japanese character for “teruko”- Donna’s middle name and the name of her business – translates to “to shine”. Lori has ordered a few sizes/samples that I will have with me this weekend and the coming week for people to try on (sugar shack during lunch). You can also come over if it’s more convenient. My email is eegilroy13@gmail.com.  My cell is 315-725-3442 or the condo 228-7507. At this point we think they will cost around $75. Lori is working out the numbers now – I’ll let you know as soon as we know.

If you would like to join us and order a fleece please respond to this email, call me or find me in the sugar shack. Also, please feel free to forward this email to anyone you think would like to join us. The more orders we have the bigger the check we can send to the Panceratic Cancer Action Network. Help us help them find a way for earlier detection, let’s do this for Donna.

Council Update and training 2-12/2-14

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Hey Everyone

Council has a busy week ahead and I can not wait to get back and be with the team.  Right now I am sitting in Boyne Michigan doing and trade show for Tecnica- Blizzard.  I will be back on the hill on Friday and ready to get the kids pumped up for Middlebury.  All of the kids skied great last weekend we just had trouble putting two runs together.  The team has done very well this year and going into the final races before states we are looking very strong.  I am proud of what we have accomplished so far and with a few races left all of the kids have big chances to move up in the MVC rankings.  Here is the up coming training schedule for the weekend, plus Pics from Nadia Dawkins. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0Absmrhm1bsWbtY

Council training 1-5/1-7

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Hey Everyone

We had a great showing at our mountain last weekend with many of our kids doing very well. I know we had a ton oh photographers there last weekend and it was great to see some of the pictures. Here is the link to a site from Nadia Dawkins http://share.shutterfly.com/share/received/welcome.sfly?fid=f2e616e60141a4ff&sid=0Absmrhm1bsWbpI she had some really good pictures of the kids skiing and at awards.

The kids are skiing very well right now and February camp is approaching fast.  If you could please contact Mariel Meringolo mariel.meringolo@gmail.com and let her know if you will be attending that would be great.  I sent out an email awhile ago but did not have many responses to it, so i just need to know some rough number of who will be attending.

The secheduel for the week is as follows

Friday- 9am meet at the yurt for Sl training on Wardance. We will ski until 11 break for lunch then come back out at 12 for at 12-2 training session.

Saturday- Meet at the Yurt at 8:00 with SL Gear we will train until 10:30. Break for lunch from 11-12 and then train from 1-2:30 on wardance.

Sunday- Slalom at Ascutney, Registration is at 7:15-8, We want all the kids out in front of the lodge at 8:15 to meet and slip.

I just want to thank all the parents for the help with lunches and races this year. Without your help we would not be able to accomplish the things we do.  You guys have been great with everything, the kids seem to be skiing faster and faster each day and with the positive support from parents, coaches and kids it is all coming together. I hope everyone has a great week at home and we will see you all Friday and Saturday.

Thanks

Pearson
