OKEMO FREESTYLE MIDWINTER PARTY

A FREERIDE…

Well, after a great deal of preparation, hard work, and excitement, the Aspen Freeskiing Open turned out to be a frustrating day of competition for Dale and Matt… it snowed (hard) all day on the day of Qualifiers, making it near-impossible to clear the 60, 65, and 75 foot step-down jumps on the course.  Neither of them advanced to semi’s.  Both, however, pushed themselves hard in training and realize that factors out of one’s control are part of the game… you prepare as best as you can, continue pushing and learning, and come out hungry the next time around.

Upcoming Competitions…

  • Luckily, USSA Eastern Championships for Slopestyle are OPEN, so even if you have not gotten in your two events on the season, you can sign up and compete.  STRATTON, Friday 2/26 (reg. not yet open).
  • Mt Snow Freeskiing OPEN, 3/19-21… email Marks for details on registering.
  • Dumont Cup, Sunday River, 3/27… email Marks for details on registering.

A MOGULS…

  • This weekend is the final regular season singles/duals event for A’s at Stratton… please REGISTER HERE.
  • The points list for Eastern Championships comes out AFTER this weekend’s event, so good luck and we’ll see what the next step is…
  • ALSO, plan on the Killington Spring Klassic, 4/9-11.

The B TEAM…

  • Clarification on this weekend’s events: Some were lucky enough to get in to Killington B moguls on 2/20… we will send a coach.  Please comment below if you are competing at Killington, be at registration no later than 7:30 and we will see you there.
  • Mogul skiers who did not get in to Killington: Please sign up ASAP for Whaleback B moguls on SUNDAY 2/21.  Comment below if you are attending and need/can offer a ride.  Please be at registration no later than 7:30 and we will see you there!
  • Slopestyle competitors: Please sign up tonight for Whaleback B slopestyle AND Aerials, 2/20… apparently this was changed to Saturday in the very recent past… Comment below if you are attending and need/can offer a ride.  Please be at registration no later than 7:30 and we will see you there!
  • REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, moguls and slopestyle, 3/6-7 at Killington.  Invites will be out next week — pay close attention here for details.
  • EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIPS, moguls and slopestyle, 3/19-21 at Holiday Valley.  Invites come out after Regionals…

FRESH START CREW…

Ready for this, TEAM??  On 3/13-14 is the Whaleback Shootout B mogul event at, you guessed it, WHALEBACK!  …2 days (2 separate mogul events).  This is going to be a fun, soft (hopefully!), Spring-conditions mogul event to try out all of the skills you’ve been learning this season and mark your GRADUATION to the B TEAM for next season.  Stay tuned for registration info (probably not for 2 weeks…)

What can you do to be totally prepared??

  • Get your USSA competitor’s license, ussa.org, Become a member, Freestyle Competitor’s License
  • Talk to your coaches… ask them what you need to be working on the most…
  • Help your coaches HELP YOU to check off all the skills on THIS LIST so you know you’re ready to throw down a run!

Thanks Team, and have a great week!
